slow pan and zoom

hi all ... i need help in autocad 2008...
i am currently working on a project , but my project file is little big so the problem is when i pan and zoom to a particular object in the drawing it is running extremely slow, i cant even work properly on that kind of speed , even when i open my drawing file in autocad it is opening as well very very slow more that 5 to 7 minute to open ,is there any kind of settings can finish me form this disaster ....i am running on dual core 2.0 with 2gb of ram and 256 graphics memory....

how large is drawing file? Working with 3d objects?

-In case there is extraneous stuff, do a "purge", and even a "-purge" to delete "registered applications".
-Freeze (not turn off) any layers not immediately needed.
-turn off regenauto

Hope this helps the speed a little...
