    I can't Hatch

As my co-workers laugh at me that I will never be a butterfly, I cry out, "I can't hatch!"
I apply my hatch command and get the Autocad message, "Acad.pat" Can't find file. No Standard patterns available. Error in reading the pattern file." I go to my support\pats\ file and they are all there.
Anyone have any idea? Thank you.

Autocad should find it "support\pats" is set as one of your support paths. Where do your co-workers have theirs, & how is theur support paths set? (under Tools>>Options>>Files)

At my machine the location for acad.pat and some other support files is at:
    "C:\\users\\<user name>cab\\appdata\\roaming\\autodesk\\autocad
    2008\\r17.1\\enu\\support\\acad.pat"

Is "....\support\pats" included in your Support File Search Path?
    (Through TOOLS>OPTIONS>FILES).

Maybe one of your co-workers removed it for a laugh while you were away from your terminal.

    Don't have "tools"?

We were meaning the menubar at the top of your screen, "tools" should be in the middle of it and when you click it a menu drops down with "options" at the bottom.
Click "options" and in the dialogue that opens click the "files" tab then click the plus sign next to "Support File Search Path"
You will now see a list of the support paths that have been set, one of these should be set to the folder where your .pat files are.
If it's not then click on "ADD" then "BROWSE", browse to the folder and click "OK", click "APPLY" and "OK" to set the path and close the dialogue.

Autocad will now be able to find your pattern files.

I don't have Tools at the top for a drop down menu. But I found options under format. The path to pat files is already there. But the command still does not work.

    Strange.

At what point does the error happen? Is it as soon as click on hatch or later in the dialogue?

Try typing in hatch followed by ? followed by *.
Do you get a list of hatch patterns or just the same error?

I'm going to have to run cos they are closing the office here but another thing you can look at is if the .pat file is ok.

Right click on it in windows and "open with" notepad.
You should see something similar to the one below but a lot longer, this is just the first few patterns for LT.
