Moving objects / blocks based on a formula or similar

    Hi All,

I'm looking for a way to move an object based on either a formula linked to a table / attributes or similar is this possible? Below is an example to hopefully help explain what I'm trying to achieve in case there is a different way of doing this:

Imagine a line 1000mm wide. I'd like to insert a block into the drawing and move it relative to the line and it's length. For example, if I tell AutoCAD (somehow) the ratio between the line and the block / object is 2:1 then the block would be moved 2000mm perpendicular to the line.

Even better would be the ability to provide two ratios between which I can move an object (eg 1.7 - 2.0) meaning I can place the object any distance along this perpendicular line providing the Base point of the object is 1700mm to 2000mm away for the line.

This might be ambitious but it would be incredibly useful for my field of work.

PS - is it possible to change my forum username as I made a typo?!

I'm sure there will be a lisp on Lee Macs website that will do just what you want.
If you are not sure about using lisp you will find tutorials there too.

I will send you an email about the username.
Im intelligent enough to know that I dont know everything; but I'll tell you all about it anyway.
